Exclamation My car of the day, new 2021 BMW 2 series.

It's finally here! the new 2 series has been revealed and it'll go on sale in early 2022 starting at £34,980. The new two door coupe is built on the same platform as the 3 and 4 series so you can be sure that rear and all-wheel drive will be offered. The current range topper is the 3.0 litre six cylinder M240i with the new car being longer and wider than the outgoing model and at least it has a more conventional front end, with a shallower Kidney grille design. The grille design features BMW's active air control flaps, which automatically open and close to meet the needs of cooling and aerodynamic efficiency. The lower air intakes pair off with triangular air curtains, while the LED headlights are said to be inspired by BMW's 02 series of small cars. You'll notice the inside shares much with the four series with buyers getting the same 12.3 inch central screen and 10.25 inch digital instrument panel. The range kicks off with a 2.0 litre four cylinder turbo with 181 BHP, then there's the 2.0 litre four cylinder diesel with 187 BHP that also has a mild hybrid system. Then we have the range topping for now at least until the new M2 arrives which is the £45,795 M240i xDrive with it's 3.0 litre straight six developing 369 BHP and 500 Nm of torque. Adaptive M suspension and electric dampers can also be chosen as optional extra.

Yes I like that, looks quite smart and the design is more in keeping with the 3, very nice.

First things first, thank god the beever teeth grills have disappeared again.

Every time I look at the styling I come up with a different thought. Sometimes its a bit 'eww' and other times its like 'yeah okay, looks funky'.

At least the B58 Straight Six is here to live another day

The side profile of the white car looks good. There's something a bit squashed about the rear of the roof profile.

If the standard 2 series has wide arches like that, how fat is the M2 going to be?
